How do I know what crystal is right for me?

Hi and welcome! So you’ve finally decided to explore your options with crystals. It’s tempting to want them all! Rest assured, you have time to decide. Let’s back up first; what are crystals? They’re energetically charged groups of atoms. Atoms are comprised of protons, neutrons and electrons. Remember that periodic table? The periodic table lists elements. The elements are substances that cannot be broken down into any other substance. The elements are listed by their atomic number. They’re listed by increasing number from left to right, according to their number of protons. So to break this down, ions are formed when atoms lose or gain electrons. An ion of an element has the same nucleus, the same number of protons and the same number of neutrons. When an atom loses an electron, the ion has a positive charge and becomes a cation. When an atom gains an electron, it’s negatively charged and thus is an anion. Stay with me, ok? These bonds are held together by atomic bonding and can occur through an electron exchange: an ionic bond or can be an electron sharing: a covalent bond. Phew! So, these bonds are arranged in systematic patterns, and depending on the temperatures, pressure exerted, mineral components and time (this is an extremely simplified explanation) crystals are created!

So you see, there is a careful balance required in order for crystals to form, and the amounts of negative and positive charges must align. Through this balance, a crystallized structure is made. They vary on size and shape, based on the conditions under which they’ve formed. They can be born from fire, from ice, from pressure, from evaporation or even from combinations of all! Water can form crystalline structures when it’s frozen or via snowflakes. Another example is table salt, crystals in cubic form. Common table salt is sodium chloride (NaCl), a balance of two elements. Why is that extraordinary? It’s about the energy contained in crystals, forged within them at the time of their creation. The first law of thermodynamics states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another. Please understand this does not state that matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but specifies the total amount of energy in a closed system can neither be created nor destroyed. Therefore, when working with energy within crystals, it’s about accessing the inherent energy stored within their crystalline structure. Crystalline structures, given their lattice arrangement of electrons, are also being studied for utilization in a possible new technology. Scientists are working on understanding on how excited electrons move around in crystals via high powered electron microscopes. The technology being studied is based on the quantum physical property of electrons themselves, and harnessing the spin of the electrons to process and store information as an avenue towards quantum computing. Currently, the conventional model for computing is based on good old fashioned electricity.

Now that we’ve digressed fully, let’s get back to why we’re here. How do you know what crystal is right for you? There are specific crystals we’ll talk about later, but let’s keep an open mind for now. When you’re in the mood for crystals (basically all the time), I find that sourcing them in person works best. Being physically present with the crystal allows you the most direct contact. It can be difficult, as the stores that have crystals are already so pleasing to be in, so try to focus on the crystal itself. You’re going to hold the crystal cupped in both hands. See how you feel. If it’s a small crystal and only requires one hand, then choose your left hand, as that side receives energy faster. If all you notice is the weight of the crystal, and the physically appealing aspects of it, then that crystal is not meant for you, in the current phase of your journey. For instance, I had a friend swear up and down that they need some rose quartz to attract love in their life, only to resonate with the most beautiful amethyst cluster that helped them gain clarity and insight into self-care, which attracted love. The crystal and you find each other, to help you attain your best and highest. Personally, I have a knack for finding and falling in love with the most expensive crystals in any shop. I feel like I could see a bumper sticker that says “I like big crystals and I cannot lie” and I’d be best friends with the driver of that car. Even as I’m writing this blog, I’m thinking back to a beautiful, gorgeous smoky quartz in one of my favorite shops. It was stunning and felt so warm in my hands. She was powerful and deeply stirring, but I felt like someone else might’ve needed her more. I also made a deal with myself that if I go back in June and she’s still there, I’m meant to have her. It’s all about balance lol.

When you hold a crystal that is meant for you, scan your body. You may feel butterflies in your chest, or an opening over your heart. You may feel something in your stomach, or lightness in your feet. You may even feel your ears pop. Pay attention to any energy tingles or zaps in your hand. You might resonate with a crystal that you hadn’t even considered previously!

That being said, I have purposely bought crystals as for specific purposes. As an energy worker, I tend to pick up more energy than is usual. Every single car that I’ve ever had, the alternator has had to be replaced. I’ve lived in different countries, different states, and had a total of 5 vehicles. (I don’t like to change vehicles that much lol) The first two vehicles were a bit older, and I brushed it off. But the other three were relatively new and were under warranty. After 5th time this happened, as I was venting to my Reiki Master during a session, it dawned on me that my energy field was frying the alternator. Because of this, I now keep a black tourmaline in my car. Black tourmaline transmutes dense energy into a lighter vibration and helps to repel, block and diffuse negative energy.

So that brings us to the next point, where can you go to physically interact with crystals to purchase? A quick google search will reveal local metaphysical shops, and you just might find what you’re in search of there. I found my very favorite crystal (we all have our favorites, let’s be honest) at a huge antique mall in Fort Worth, TX.  I was not looking for crystals, but I was shopping there with a friend and felt drawn to a locked case. I went straight to the case and saw the crystal inside.  I honestly don’t think I even looked at anything else in the case!  Once the case was unlocked and I held her in my hand, it was instant. I knew exactly what her purpose and intention was for me, and I was sold. And she was a whopping $32. So please try not to focus on how much a crystal is, thinking that the more expensive the crystal is, the better it is.

I try not to look at the price before I select. It’s a little game I like to play while shopping. I see something I like, I pick it up, see how I feel and then say, “How many dollars would I pay for this?” With that in mind, I then look at the price. Often, the price is more than what I mentally set, and the object stays on to live at the store, meant for someone else. (Hi, Sephora) But every once in a while, I get a surprise and know that it’s meant for me.

Crystals tend to multiply and avalanche themselves into your life. They start with a trickle and proceed to a steady stream, then before you know it, you have a giant 6 foot tall citrine cathedral at your front door and you’re bathing in a rose quartz bathtub. No? Ok, maybe that’s my dream!

I’m so pleased you’ve decided to introduce crystals into your life, and I hope you enjoy this! I look forward your feedback, and welcome your requests for more topics.
